The president of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov has expressed support for the European games. Zhukov took part in the 41st General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees, held in Rome, Interfax reported.

"The idea of organising the European games was made long ago," he said. "They will certainly give a new impetus to the development of sport in our continent. The Russian Olympic Committee is ready for close cooperation with the Azerbaijani Olympic Committee to ensure the successful training and holding of the European games which would be a first in our history."

It is expected that the European games like the Pan American and Pan-Asian Games will be held in Europe every four years.

The first European games must be held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku in June 2015. The estimated number of participants is 7000. They will compete in 17 kinds of sports, 15 Olympic and two non-Olympic.
