BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 17. Azerbaijan is an important ally of Israel, and the relationship between the two countries has been built on mutual respect and friendship, a source in the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora told Trend.
The issue has been reflected in the article "Why Azerbaijan is important for Israel’s security?" in the American publication "Jewish News Syndicate" by the well-known Israeli expert on the Arab world and Iran, retired lieutenant colonel of the Israeli Defense Forces’ intelligence corps, professor of Middle Eastern studies at the prestigious Bar-Ilan University in Israel, and director of the Center for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at the same university, Mordechai Kedar, a researcher at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies.
According to the author, Azerbaijan differs from Israel’s Western allies in its approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite nearly all Western countries pressuring Israel regarding Palestine, Azerbaijan has never allowed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to negatively affect its relations with Israel.
The article pointed out that since the early 1990s, Azerbaijan has been a key guarantor of Israel’s energy security. The oil supplied by Azerbaijan to Israel is of great importance for the country’s energy security. Azerbaijan is also indispensable to Israel in another area—its role as a mediator between Jerusalem and Ankara. Azerbaijan's close ties with both Israel and Türkiye make it an ideal mediator for both countries.
