There are plans to construct 83 new water storage facilities with a capacity of 1.345 million cubic meters of water in Absheron peninsula in 2035, the head of "Azersu" (national water operator of Azerbaijan) Gorkhmaz Huseynov said during his speech on Friday at the ongoing Caspian International Forum of Water Technologies taking place in Baku.

According to him, construction of water storage facilities is provided by a master plan for the reconstruction of water supply and sewage system of Greater Baku.

In addition, the master plan includes the construction of the water network with the length of 5,779 kilometers, 682 sewers, 6,395 miles of tunnel type sewers, as well as 11 waste water treatment plants with total annual capacity of 1.375 million cubic meters.

It is also planned to install rain water runoff lines totaling 970 kilometers in length, the construction of 900 rainwater collectors, and 12 rain collector of tunnel type.

"In addition, the construction of the building of the Central laboratory is now being continued for a more accurate study of drinking and sewage water composition. The laboratory will conduct tests in accordance with the standards of the European Union and the World Health Organization. We are going to present a laboratory for international accreditation," Huseynov said.
