Sowing area in Kazakhstan’s Atyrau region will amount to 9,222 ha this year, with majority (3,332 ha) being allocated for feed crops, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture.
The ministry said that due to the fact that the sowing area is not big in the region, farmers were able to cultivate the land and sow half of the intended land in no time.
Thus, the ministry said that vegetables will be placed on 2,600 ha, potatoes on 2,000 ha, melons on almost 1,200 ha of allocated sowing area this year.
Currently, the ministry said that sowing was finished on over half of the land allocated, including forage crops, which were sown 1,878 ha, vegetables on 1,271 ha, melons on 600 ha, and potatoes on 705 ha.
A total of 1,500 people of 305 agricultural enterprises are taking part in the sowing work. Some 783 units of agricultural machinery are being used in the sowing process.
Atyrau region farmers did not submit any applications for the allocation of cheaper diesel fuel this year, the ministry said.
As reported earlier this month, sowing area of highly profitable crops such as oilseeds, vegetables and fodder crops has been increased by 238,000 ha this year in Kazakhstan.
The overall sowing area of agriculture crops was increased to be 22.5 million ha in 2020.
The regional budgets allocated 11.3 billion tenge (425.9 million) to subsidize seed production development this year, whereas 2.5 billion tenge ($5.7 million) were allocated from the republican budget to purchase nearly 29,400 tons of seeds and 838,700 elite seedlings.
