Kazakhstan overseeing several projects to solve drinking water problems in Mangystau

The construction of a new gas processing plant is currently underway in Zhanaozen city of Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, Trend reports citing the press office of Kazakhstan’s government.

The topic of plant construction the capacity of which is up to 1 billion cubic of gas was discussed during the working trip of Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin to Mangystau region.

As noted during the visit the reconstruction and expansion of the Caspiy desalination plant is underway to providing the region’s population with drinking water. Thus, the plant’s capacities will be increased to 40, cubic meters per day.

Work to increase in the capacity of Karazhanbas desalination plant by 17,000 cubic meters per day, the construction of the Kenderli desalination plant with a capacity 50,000 cubic meters per day are also underway, which will solve the issues of water supply and the city of Zhanaozen.

Additionally, new water supply and sewerage networks will be built, the sewage system will be reconstructed, bringing the total capacity to 70,000 cubic meters per day.

The issues of increasing food security of the Mangystau region were also considered. A number of agricultural investment projects are being implemented in the region.

One of them is the Aktau Agro project for the production of poultry meat with a capacity of 5,000 tons per year. The commissioning is planned for 2Q2021. The implementation of the project will increase the region's supply of poultry meat to 45 percent.

As of the end of 2020, investments in fixed assets of the Mangystau region increased by 2.9 percent to 576.4 billion tenge ($1.3 billion) as compared to 2019.
