Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region shows highest growth in BAI

Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region showed the highest growth in the Business Activity Index, which amounted to 41.7 percent, Trend reports referring to the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR).

According to the CERR, the business activity index (BAI) in January 2021 recovered and amounted to 1,025 points.

It was noted that this indicator has had a negative trend since June 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The business activity index in January 2021 increased by 2.5 percent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, which is explained by changes in the components, including procurement of raw materials to increase the intensity of Commodity Exchange 11.9 percent decrease in the number of transactions on bank accounts of economic entities by 30.1 percent, growth of the component of operating economic entities by 21.8 percent and growth of the component of trademarks by 2.1 times.

Thus, the BAI for nine regions in January 2021 increased compared to January 2020. There was significant growth in Bukhara (41.7 percent), Kashkadarya (25.6 percent), Samarkand (24.7 percent), Fergana (20.6 percent) regions and Tashkent city (32.5 percent).

At the same time, a decline in relation to the corresponding month of last year was observed in Andijan (14.4 percent), Surkhandarya (9.6 percent), Syrdarya (7.1 percent), Tashkent (6.9 percent), and Navoi (6.2 percent) areas.

It was noted that the exchange component of the BAI, compared to January 2020, amounted to 1.1196, which means an increase of this component by 11.9 percent.

In addition, the component of operating economic entities in January 2021 amounted to 1.2180, which means an increase in the component by 21.8 percent compared to the level of the corresponding month of last year.

Moreover, during the reporting period, the number of small businesses increased by 75,354, amounting to 417,244, the number of farms increased by 9,756 (103,900), the number of operating large enterprises increased by 670 was (2,992).

Also, the number of interbank payment transactions in January 2021 amounted to 3.6 billion decreased by 1.6 billion transactions (-30.1 percent), compared to January 2020.

In January 2021, the number of banking transactions between legal entities decreased in all regions of the country. In particular, the most significant decline was observed in Syrdarya (48.1 percent), Kashkadarya (46.2 percent), Andijan (43.8 percent), Khorezm (39.4 percent) regions, and Karakalpakstan Republic (40.5 percent).
