BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. Iran's cotton production is expected to reach 100,000 tons for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), the executor of the cotton plan of Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Ebrahim Hezarjaribi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
The official said that the mentioned volume of cotton will be processed from 300,000 tons of raw cotton.
Hezarjaribi added that the area under cotton has increased to 110,000 hectares this year, which is an increase of 15 percent compared to last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
“Over last year, Iran harvested a total of 250,000 tons of raw cotton and produced 70,000 tons of cotton,” he noted.
According to Hezarjaribi, Iran is expected to be fully self-sufficient in cotton in 2024.
Reportedly, Iran's annual demand for cotton is about 150,000 tons.
