BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. The volume of apples produced in Iran decreased by 7 percent over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to the preceding year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Dariush Salimpour said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Salimpour, about 4 million tons of apples were produced in the country over the last Iranian year.

The official added that the reason for the decline in the country's apple production was climate change, cold weather and hail.

“West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Fars, Isfahan, Tehran, Zanjan and Hamadan provinces are the main centers of apple production in Iran. In total, the area of apple orchards in the country is 247,000 hectares,” he said.

As for Iran’s apple exports, Salimpour noted that about 550,000 tons of apples worth $172 million were exported from Iran during the first 11 months of the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023).

Meanwhile, in the same period in the preceding year, Iran's apple export amounted to 985,000 tons, the official pointed out.

Overall, Iran exported over 111 million tons of non-oil products worth $48.8 billion within the first 11 months of the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022, through February 19, 2023). This is an increase of 12.2 percent in value, while a decrease of 1 percent in volume compared to the same period in the preceding Iranian year.
