The Turkish state pipeline company Botas began investigating the causes of the explosion on a gas pipeline between Turkey and Iran, Botas told Trend over the phone.

"At present, the causes of the accident are under investigation", the company said. There is no exact data."

The gas pipeline supplying gas from Iran to Turkey exploded on Friday morning, Mehr news agency said.

The agency said that gas supplies from Iran to Turkey were suspended and that the fire was extinguished. At present, the pipeline is under repair.
BOTAS said that an official statement about the cause of the explosion will be made after the investigation.

Iran exports more than 30 million cubic meters of gas to Turkey daily. In 2009 the figure was 21 million cubic meters of gas.

Iran ranks second in gas reserves, after Russia, and is the second largest supplier of gas to Turkey.
