Iran is currently diversifying export markets for petrochemical products, official at the National Iranian Petrochemical Industries Ali-Mohammad Bassaqzadeh said.

"The global economic sanctions, targeting Iran's oil sector, have not been effective and many countries have lined up to buy Iranian petrochemical products," Ali-Mohammad Bassaqzadeh added, the Shana new agency reported.

Last year, Iran exported 16.2 million tons of petrochemical products to 60 world countries.

Europe and China were the main recipients of Iran's petrochemical exports, followed by Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Subcontinent, Africa and Latin America.

"Iran plans to increase petrochemical output by 5 million tons to 49 million tons in the current calendar year, which ends on March 20, 2013," the National Petrochemical Company's managing director Abdolhossein Bayat said on June 6.

"Nine petrochemical projects will be implemented in the current year which will boost the country's output by 5 million tons," he said.
