Iran to privatize 28 power plants

Iran is prepared to transfer 28 national power plants to the private sector, an official in charge of privatizing the industry sector said.

"Thus far, 16 power plants with the total generation capacity of 15,000 megawatts have been privatized and 28 others are ready to be privatized," Bahman Allah-Moradi told the Fars news agency.

By the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2015), Iran will boost its electricity generation capacity by 25GW to reach 73GW, Energy Minister Majid Namjou said on February 7.

Today, Iran trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

Iran is the top electricity producer in the Middle East, an official with Iran Power Development Company said on July 9.

Mahmoud Dashtbozorg told the IRNA news agency that the country is the fifteenth largest electricity producer in the world.
