Uzbekistan completes Navoi TPP modernization

Uzbekenergo has finished a project worth $468 million to build a combined cycle gas turbine at Navoi thermal power plant, the company told trend on Friday.

The energy produced in combined cycle gas turbine will be available in the network in late October.

As previously reported, the project of modernization of Navoi TPP worth $468 million includes the construction of combined cycle gas turbine with a capacity of 478 MW. The project will provide an opportunity for additional fuel savings to generate 3.4 billion kWh of electricity annually.

The financing is implemented at the expense of the Uzbek Reconstruction and Development Fund's loan in amount of $351 million.

An international consortium of Spanish Initec Energia and Turkish Calik Enerji is the General contractor.

Capacity extension of Navoi TPP is a component of the energy project of Free Industrial Economic Zone Navoi.

Navoi TPP, one of the largest power plants in Central Asia with an installed capacity of 1,250 MW.

About 45 power plants with total capacity of about 12,400 MW, including 16 Uzbekenergo ones with a total capacity of 12,040 MW operate in the Uzbek power system.

According to official statistics, Uzbekistan increased electricity production by 1.3 per cent up to 52.416 billion kilowatt-hours in 2011 compared to 2010.
