Mitsubishi may finance construction of new combined cycle plant at Uzbekistan’s TPP

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov held talks in Tashkent with representatives of Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy’s press service.

The meeting was organized in preparation for the upcoming visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan in December.

The parties noted the success of the partnership in the framework of the projects for the construction of the Turakurgan Thermal power plant (TPP) and the modernization of the Navoi TPP, where the latest-generation combined-cycle plants manufactured by Mitsubishi Corporation were installed. These projects in the electric power sector of Uzbekistan were implemented with the financial support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

During the visit of the head of state to Japan, it is planned to sign a loan agreement to finance a project to build a third combined cycle gas turbine unit at the Navoi TPP with a capacity of at least 600 MW, as well as discuss a partnership for the installation of four combined cycle plants at the Navoi TPP.

In total, six combined-cycle plants manufactured by Mitsubishi Corporation are currently installed in Uzbekistan, in connection with which the possibility of creating a service center was discussed at the meeting. The Japanese side also showed interest in the localization of the production of spare parts for combined-cycle plants.

Moreover, the issue of participation of Mitsubishi Corporation in tenders for the construction of the 3rd and 4th combined-cycle plants at the Syrdarya TPP was discussed as well. The project is implemented on the principles of public-private partnership.

The possibility of Mitsubishi Corporation’s participation in the organization of servicing at the new ammonia and urea complex at Uzbekistan's Navoiazot JSC chemical company was considered, read the message.

During the meeting, the interest of both parties in the further expansion of cooperation was noted.
