Eni ready to support renewable energy generation initiatives in Turkmenistan

By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Italy’s Eni stands ready to promote and support renewable energy generation initiatives in Turkmenistan, including solar and wind energy plants, which could be facilitated by a dedicated regulation framework, the company told Trend.

Eni said to further promote activities by International Oil Companies (IOCs) in the sustainable development of the petroleum sector in Turkmenistan, the introduction of a dedicated institution interacting and interfacing with IOCs might be useful to be considered once more.

“This would allow to facilitate, evaluate and negotiate IOCs initiatives related to country’s petroleum sector; help and improve communication between the IOCs and non-petroleum state authorities,” said the company.

Eni said gas is becoming more and more the energy transition fluid, from oil to renewables.

“Allowing IOCs for commercialising their own share of gas produced, would imply to: improve economics of any existing and future projects; help oil production, often restricted by associated gas; optimise the swaps between Turkmenistan domestic consumption and gas exports,” said the company.

Eni is present in Turkmenistan since 2008 through acquisition of Burren Energy and becoming a sole Operator under the Nebit Dag PSA.
