The spread of coronavirus in Iran has not led to decline in consumption of compressed natural gas (CNG), Director of CNG Project at National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Hamid Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh said, Trend reports citing the company's website.

According to Dehcheshmeh, currently, the CNG consumption in the country exceeds 24 million cubic meters a day.

The director added that the consumption has not decreased as pickups and taxis that use this fuel continue to operate.

On November 15, the price of gasoline in Iran was increased from 10 thousand rials (about 23 cents) to 15,000 rials (about 35 cents), while the price for freely sold fuel rose to 30,000 rials (71 cents). More than 1.46 million taxis, vans and other passenger vehicles use both gasoline and gas as fuel.

On December 10, 2019, NIOPDC and Iran Khodro car producing signed a contract. According to the contract, $1.54 billion will be allocated for the provision of vehicles with gas-consuming equipment.
