BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. About 280-300 million cubic meters of gas per day is expected to be supplied to the thermal power plants in Iran this summer, Manager of the Dispatching Department of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mohammad Reza Joulaei told IRNA, Trend reports.

"At present, about 260 million cubic meters of gas daily is supplied to the country's thermal power plants," Joulaei said.

The official also added that the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) is ready to supply gas if there is a need for additional gas for thermal power plants.

In total, Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and etc. generated 359 million megawatt-hours of electricity over the last Iranian year. About 95 percent of this is accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.

Currently, there are a total of 130 thermal power plants operating in Iran, and the power generation capacity of the thermal power plants is about 71,000 megawatt-hours.

Reportedly, there will be a shortage of electricity in Iran this summer. Due to the low rainfall this year, the generation of hydroelectric power plants will be at a minimum. The capacity of hydropower plants in Iran is about 12 percent.
