BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 16. Azerbaijan's total electricity generation exceeded 28.988 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2022, which was 1.113 billion kWh or four percent more than in 2021, Trend reports citing the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy.

According to the ministry, the country's hydroelectric power plants increased the power production by 785.1 million kWh, to 27.043 billion kWh, by the end of 2022. In the meantime, electricity output at small hydropower plants made up 1.596 billion kWh (growth of 318.5 million kWh), while renewable electricity production amounted to 349.5 million kWh.

In addition, Azerbaijan exported over three billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2022, up by 1.4 million kilowatt-hours against the same period of 2021. The country's electricity imports settled at 137.1 million kWh.

In 2021, over 27.855 billion kWh of electric power were generated in Azerbaijan by all types of power plants. Meanwhile, electricity consumption in Azerbaijan has exceeded 23.435 billion kWh.
