BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. The electricity generation capacity of Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province in the north-east of the country is expected to increase by 366 megawatt-hours with the launch of new combined cycle power plants this summer, Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Mohammad Ramazani said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to Ramazani, the increase in the mentioned volume will play a big role in the country's electricity supply.

The deputy director added that currently, there is a 546 megawatt-hour combined cycle power plant being built in Sabzevar County of Razavi Khorasan Province. In general, the power plant will have 2 gas units with the generation capacity of 183 megawatt-hours each, and 1 steam unit with the generation capacity of 180 megawatt-hours. The 1st gas unit of this station is planned to be put into use this summer.

“In addition, a 546 megawatt-hour combined cycle power plant is also being built in Torbat-e Heydarieh County of Razavi Khorasan province. This station will have 2 gas units with the generation capacity of 183 megawatt-hours each and 1 steam unit with the generation capacity of 180 megawatt hours. The 1st gas unit of this station is also planned to be launched this summer,” he said.

Overall, Iran’s thermal power plants generated approximately 333 million megawatt-hours of electricity over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), which is an increase of 3 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).

At present, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent are accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.

There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.
