BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. In January 2024, the STAR oil refinery of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye boosted its production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), churning out 16,049 tons compared to 14,868 tons in the same month of 2023, Trend reports.

According to Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), LPG production at the refinery increased by 7.9 percent year-on-year.

The STAR refinery, with an investment cost of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with approximately $3.3 billion of the project's cost covered by loans. With an annual refining capacity of about 10 million tons and the capability to process 214 thousand barrels of crude oil per day, the refinery plays a pivotal role in the region's energy landscape.

SOCAR Türkiye has outlined plans to temporarily suspend operations at the STAR refinery for maintenance in 2024, marking the first shutdown since its commissioning. Scheduled repairs aim to enhance operational efficiency, with measures implemented to extend the interval between maintenance shutdowns to five years, potentially saving up to $40 million.
