Baku will host the next, 29th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Conference on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) in April, the Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technologies Ministry said.
According to the ministry, the decision to hold the COMSTECH Executive Committee's 29th meeting in Baku was taken during the 14th General Assembly meeting and 28th meeting of the COMSTECH Executive Committee, held Jan.10-13 in Islamabad.
At the meeting Azerbaijan was represented by the Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technologies Ministry's delegation headed by Minister Ali Abbasov.
At the COMSTECH General Assembly Abbasov was elected key speaker. In his report, Abbasov spoke about the current situation and achievements of Azerbaijan in the spheres of science, technology, as well as regional cooperation.
Azerbaijan's initiative for building the East-West information superhighway and the project of Regional Innovation Zone (RIZ) in Azerbaijan were included in the working plan of the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry reported earlier. The project of constructing the East-West information superhighway and the establishment of the RIZ in the country was one of the main themes of the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov's report. Abbasov provided the participants with detailed information about projects and policies, aimed at developing ICT and the sphere of science and technology.
Within the events Abbasov held meetings with his counterparts from Pakistan, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, etc.
