E-commerce ha started to develop in Turkmenistan, as certain measures are already being taken in the country, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

In particular, strengthened digitalization in industrial, financial and agricultural sectors are key factors in developing E-commerce, said the report.

Thus, for the development of digitalization in the agro-industrial sector, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental protection of Turkmenistan and John Deere Walldorf GmbH & Co.KG in August last year. According to the document, in the next few years, special equipment of the John Deere and Claas brands will be provided with telematics.

In addition to this, digitalization also contributes to the innovative development of entrepreneurship.

Turkmenistan is improving the legal framework for E-commerce as well. The laws of Turkmenistan on communications, on legal regulation of the development of the Internet and the provision of Internet services in Turkmenistan, on information and its protection, on cybersecurity, on electronic document, electronic document management and digital services and others were adopted.

In early February 2020, it was announced that $10 million were allocated for the creation of IT centers in Ashgabat and the country's regions.
