BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. Last week it became known that Azerbaijan’s Baku Telephone Communications LLC (Baktelecom) has expanded the coverage area of ​​optical services in the Surakhani district of Baku, Trend reports.

The LLC built a new optical network in the region, capacity of 1,600 subscribers.

The LLC also started to create optical infrastructure in the Yeni Surakhany settlement in Baku and the Gushchulug residential area in the Hovsan settlement. It is planned to start providing telephone and high-speed internet services to 12,000 users in these territories by the end of 2022.

Also last week it was reported that 14 new automatic telephone exchanges were put into operation in a number of settlements of the Sharur region of the Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan in 1Q2022, which made it possible to provide this area with fiber optic communication lines and high-speed internet.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan Republic (CBAR) will develop a regulatory framework for the eKYC ('Know your customer') electronic system. The eKYC system aims to prevent money laundering, terrorist financing and tax evasion. Azerbaijan plans to develop an appropriate regulatory framework for the eKYC system, determine the mechanisms for managing the platform and classify data sources. The launch of eKYC is scheduled for 2023.
