BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. Azerbaijan is actively moving towards developing a strategy for the introduction of 5G technology, the Information and Communication Technologies Agency (ICTA), the regulator of telecommunication and postal services under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation of Azerbaijan, told Trend.
The agency notes that a regular online meeting of the working group on "Development of 5G Strategy" was held.
"First, the meeting discussed and clarified the main topics that will be included in the content of the 5G Strategy. Later, a presentation was made on the current status of the main radio frequency bands allocated for 5G, and the acceleration of the process of releasing the used radio frequencies was discussed. The issue of holding a separate seminar (webinar) for the global equipment vendors included in the working group to provide the regulator and mobile operators with detailed information on their 5G portfolios, as well as the tasks of mobile operators in building 5G networks, proposals for radio frequency spectrum, and other issues, was raised and approved. A preliminary agreement has been reached to prepare presentations and organize a separate meeting for a detailed study of the issues," the press service said.
The members of the working group were informed about the "Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Information Security and Cybersecurity for 2023-2027".
In connection with the issue of ensuring cybersecurity in the 5G ecosystem, the document emphasizes that the prepared action plan for implementation of the strategy will be based on 5G networks.
As a result of the meeting, the approximate time of the next meeting of the working group was determined, and a work plan was agreed upon until the next meeting.
The charter of the Information and Communication Technologies Agency was approved by Presidential Decree No. 1861 of October 21, 2022. The Agency carries out regulation and control in the fields of information and communication technologies (ICT) and communications (telecommunications and mail), as well as the management of radio frequency spectrum in the country.
