Cargo transportation through Iran’s Mashhad Airport soars

The volume of cargo transported through the Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport in Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) increased by 93 percent, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, as was reflected in the statistics of Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company (IAC), Trend reports.

According to the statistics, 35,676 tons of cargo were transported through the airport in 9 months. Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 18,484 tons.

Over 9 months, 34,787 flights (passenger planes only) were carried out from the Mashhad Airport, which is increase of 74 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

So, the figure amounted to 19,958 in the same period last Iranian year.

“In total, 3,683,772 passengers were transported through the airport within the mentioned period. Passenger transportation increased by 65 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, 2,230,439 passengers had been transported in the same period last Iranian year,” he said.

The Mashhad Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport is located on an area of 540 hectares. It is the second busiest airport in Iran after Tehran's Mehrabad Airport.
