ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 12. About 1.5 million tons of cargo were transshipped through the Kazakh seaport of Kuryk from January through August, which is 15 percent higher than the same period last year, Trend reports.
Data from Kazakhstan Railways shows that, over 1 million tons were delivered by rail, more than 430,000 by road.
The port handled 480 ferries, over 13,800 wagons, and more than 18,000 freight vehicles.
Kazakh oil and petroleum products, metals, fertilizers, and chemical products are transshipped through the port.
The transit of goods coming from China, the Central Asian republics towards the ports of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye and further to the countries of Eastern Europe and back is growing.
Currently, a grain terminal is being built at the port, through which up to a million tons of grain will be transshipped per year.
The port of Kuryk is a ferry complex capable of receiving road and rail ferries all year round. Its current project capacity is 6 million tons per year.
