BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided financial assistance to the local farmer Ilhomjon Hakimov from the Rudaki region of Tajikistan, Trend reports with the reference to the EBRD.

Hakimov approached one of the EBRD's Tajikistan partner banks for a Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF Tajikistan) loan in 2021, which is co-funded by the Green Climate Fund and backed by South Korea.

Through the Enhanced Competitiveness of Tajik Agribusinesses Project, the EU complemented the GEFF financing with an investment incentive (ECTAP).

The investment went on installing three cold storage units, a sprinkler irrigation system and water storage for his orchard. Using the new sprinkler irrigation will also allow for him to save up to 30 percent of water annually, while the energy-efficient cold storage units will save him around 30-40 percent of energy compared to traditional methods.

Local farmer encourages green technology innovation and attempts to incorporate it into his farm where he cultivates grapes, plums, nectarines and cherries along with almost all types of vegetables.

Moreover, Hakimov wants to create his own brand and find a new sales market, and this year he plans to produce frozen berries and sell them in Tajik stores using the new cold storage technology.
