In January-May of this year the growth rate of oil and gas condensate production in Turkmenistan was 101.2 per cent to the level of 2012 and the plan for the production of natural and accompanying gas was fulfilled to 102 per cent, the Turkmen Ministry of Finance reports.

According to the report, the volume of drilling operations during this period increased by 14 per cent and the processing of hydrocarbon fuel increased 2.6 per cent. In the area of production of oil products, high growth rates have been observed in the production of automobile gasoline - 105 per cent, as well as 107.6 per cent in the production of polypropylene and 104.7 per cent in the production of liquefied gas.

Turkmenistan plays the role of one of the key players in the energy market in the Caspian region. Each year local raw materials are exported to Russia and Iran. In 2009, a route to China was opened. Turkmenistan holds fourth place in the world for its gas reserves.

According to the data of the State Concern Turkmengeology, 38 oil fields, 82 gas-condensate fields, as well as 153 gas fields including 142 fields on land and 11 on the shelf were opened in Turkmenistan.

The largest fields in the country are concentrated in the east of the Mary region of Turkmenistan at Southern Yoloten-Osman (recently merged and renamed Galkinish) and Yashlar with common resources estimated by local geologists and British GCA at 26.2 trillion cubic meters.
