BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. China was the main car-exporting country for Uzbekistan in January 2023, Trend reports via Uzbekistan’s Statistics Committee.

According to the committee, during the first month of this year, Uzbekistan imported 2,193 cars worth $58.3 million, decreasing by 27.8 percent or 847 units, compared to the reporting period in 2022 (3,040 cars).

Uzbekistan's top car-importing source countries in January 2023, besides China (1,064 cars), were South Korea (949 cars), the US (110 cars), Hong Kong (29 cars), Germany (12 cars), Japan (10 cars), the UAE (8 cars), etc.

Furthermore, during the relevant period, Uzbekistan imported goods and services worth $2.9 million – an increase of 39.8 percent, compared to the figure for January 2022 ($2.1 million). The main share in import structure falls on machinery and transport equipment (45.6 percent), industrial goods (13.4 percent), as well as chemical products (12.1 percent).

Meanwhile, in 2022, Uzbekistan imported 2,180 units of electric vehicles worth $69.8 million, decreasing by 1,371 units of electric vehicles or 2.7 times compared to the same period in 2021. During the reporting period, China was the leading electric vehicle-importing country for Uzbekistan – 1,941 units. The remaining exporters were: UAE (111 units), Germany (58 units), Hong Kong (42 units), Lithuania (10 units), South Korea (7 units), etc.
