One Palestinian was killed and 10 wounded early early Friday in a series of Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, an official and witnesses said, dpa reported.

The F16s fired missiles into security posts of Palestinian militants in the north and west of Gaza city, security officials said.

Three explosions were heard around 2:05 am (0005 GMT), shortly after jets and reconnaissance drones were seen over the city, the pro-Hamas al-Aqsa Radio quoted witnesses as saying.

One civilian was killed and 10 injured, including seven children and two women, Gaza emergency spokesman Adham Abu Selmeya told reporters. All belonged to the same family and lived next to one of the targeted security posts in northern Gaza city, he said.

Israeli jets struck a military post in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, Hamas Radio said. No injuries or damage were reported.

The airstrikes were seen as a response to homemade rockets and mortars fired earlier at southern Israeli towns. No injuries or damages were reported from those attacks, Israeli radio said.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the Fatah Party, said they fired the rockets and mortars to avenge the killing of two of their militant comrades in an airstrike on their car Thursday in Gaza city.
