EU hits Microsoft with largest-ever fine

(dpa) - The European Union's executive body fined Microsoft 899 million euros (1.34 billion dollars) Wednesday for failing to allow competitors access to key communication codes at a fair price.

It is the third fine the European Commission has imposed on the software titan over the issue, and the largest fine in EU history. It brings the total penalty imposed on Microsoft to 1.7 billion euros.
