According to preliminary data, the holding of the 41st session of the CIS Electric Power Council is scheduled in Ashgabat on May 25, 2012, the official Turkmen source said on Friday.

Turkmenistan will serve as chairman of the CIS in 2012. The decision was made at the CIS summit held in Dushanbe in September last year.

The holding of 31 CIS events, 10 of which will be organised in Ashgabat, the rest in other Commonwealth countries, are scheduled in 2012 under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan.
Meetings of the Council of Heads of State, Heads of Government Council and the Council of Foreign Ministers of CIS member states, as well as the Economic Council of the Commonwealth will be held in Turkmenistan.

The Forum of Creative and Scientific Intelligentsia of the CIS countries and international conferences on issues of food security will also be held in Turkmenistan.

Officially in 2005, Ashgabat, referring to the status of permanent neutrality, recognised and supported by the United Nations, adopted the decision on its participation in the structure of the CIS as an associated member.

In recent years, several CIS events were held in Ashgabat. These included a summit of foreign ministers, meeting of the Interstate Council for Standardisation, Metrology and Certification, a meeting of the council of the commanders of border troops, a film festival, agricultural forum and other activities.
