Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, March 1
By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
The 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) will take place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on Nov. 14-15, said Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
He was addressing the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Islamabad March 1.
Berdimuhamedov reminded that in December 2015, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan signed a trilateral agreement on cooperation in electric power industry, which envisages creation of appropriate infrastructure to supply electricity from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news service reported.
Berdimuhamedov noted that achieving peace and security in Afghanistan are the main conditions for progress in the region.
“All our diplomatic and political efforts and initiatives are aimed at achieving this goal,” he said. “This means full support for efforts of brotherly Afghanistan to stabilize the situation and restore socio-economic infrastructure. Participation of Afghanistan in major regional and international infrastructure projects is a more effective method for this.”
Turkmenistan supplies electricity to Afghanistan on favorable terms and also regularly sends humanitarian aid.
