The Republican Seismological Centre has updated the software of seismic stations installed in the country, the center told Trend on Tuesday.

The U.S Kinemetrics company is a supplier of the platforms of the seismic equipment.

The number of stations operating in Azerbaijan is 31.

Kinemetrics has organized trainings for center staff to work with the new, more advanced software component.

The earthquake research bureau carries out seismological observations, collects and processes the information about strong and measurable earthquakes in the territory of the Republic and in the neighboring regions through a network of telemetry stations.

These data are transferred to the operational and other relevant bodies. The quarterly catalogs are compiled. The maps of epicenters are created.

A team of Kinemetrics specialists will arrive in Azerbaijan soon. They will conducts tests for installing three bottom seismometers in the Caspian Sea (the fields "Umid", "Chilov" and "Chirag") and four - onshore. The equipment to be installed offshore, has been ordered.

It is preparing to submit a work plan to SOCAR to implement this project.
