BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. During the war and anti-terrorist activities of local nature conducted by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Karabakh, cyber attacks were made on the official page of the Ministry of Defense, and President Ilham Aliyev, head of the State Special Communication and Information Security Service Department Tural Mammadov said, Trend reports.
He spoke at the event "Critical Infrastructure Defense Challenge 2023" in Baku.
He noted that cyber attacks on various information structures in Azerbaijan do not stop and occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Regular statistics are also presented in this regard.
"According to IP, it is difficult to establish from which countries exactly cyberattacks take place. Because they are anonymous and falsified. If we pay attention to the format and directions of these attacks, based on our analyses, it is established that most of them are organized from neighboring countries. Our services carry out round-the-clock monitoring against attacks and actively work on the protection of state institutions' information systems," Mammadov emphasized.
He also mentioned that, according to the period of activity, cyberattacks can be on the websites of various government agencies.
"Cyberattacks against critically important infrastructures are also observed. Among them are banks and other structures. At the same time, we are witnessing the transmission of mass messages and disinformation tools to citizens," Mammadov added.
In order to ensure the provisions of the Trilateral Statement [signed by Azerbaijani, Armenian and Russian leaders following the 2020 second Karabakh war], to stop large-scale provocations in the Karabakh economic region, to disarm and withdraw formations of the Armenian armed forces from the territories of Azerbaijan, to neutralize their military infrastructure, to ensure the safety of the peaceful population returning to the territories liberated from occupation, civil servants involved in construction and reconstruction work, and Azerbaijan's military personnel, as well as to restore the constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan, anti-terrorist measures have been conducted in the region.
Within the framework of the activities, positions of Armenian armed forces formations, their long-term firing points, as well as military means and military facilities, were disrupted using high-precision weapons in the front line and in depth. Civilians and civilian infrastructure were not targets; only legitimate military targets were disabled.
