Some 95 percent of operations with payment cards accounts for debit cards in Azerbaijan

As of April 1, 4,342 plastic cards were in use in Azerbaijan. It exceeds the similar index in March by 1.4 percent, and 7 percent compared to the same period of 2010, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) reported.

As of April 1, 4,342 plastic cards were in use in Azerbaijan. It exceeds the similar index in March by 1.4 percent, and 7 percent compared to the same period of 2010, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) reported.

The number of operations with debit cards hit 4,727 in this period (an increase at 22.6 percent in March). Total amount of operations with debit cards hit 605 million manat (23.7 percent).

Some 4,530 operations were held with debit cards through the ATM worth 572 million manat and 105,000 operations through the POS- terminals in the amount of 20 million manat.

The number of operations by credit cards hit 246,000 (23 percent) worth 66 million manat (22.2 percent). A total of 92,000 operations worth 23 million manat were carried out by credit cards through the ATM and 26,000 operations in the amount of 14 million manat through Pos-terminals.

The total turnover of payment cards through ATM and POS-terminals amounted to 4.973 million manat as of April 1, where the share of operations with debit cards hits 95 percent.
As of April 1, 1,929 ATMs were in use in the country, increasing by 214 units during the year. Some 1,071 ATMs are located in Baku, while 848 - in other cities and regions.
During the reporting period, the number of POS-terminals totaled 8,857 units, 8,027 of which are located in Baku, while 830 units in other cities and regions.

The official exchange rate on May 2 is 0.7916 manat to $1.
