President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to radically improve the seed-growing system in the country.

The text of the document was published in the National Database of Legislation of Uzbekistan.

According to the decree, the Ministry of Innovative Development and the Ministry of Agriculture will have to check the seed farms and enterprises for the compliance of products to quality certificates, to create new seed-growing companies with use of foreign investments, and also develop new hybrid seeds.

From Sep. 1, 2018, Uzbek farmers and enterprises are prohibited from placing more than 10 regionalized varieties of grain crops in one province, and more than five in one district. The testing period for varieties of cotton was reduced to 2 years, for other crops - up to one year.

The requirement on compulsory registration of all emerging crops in the State Register was also canceled. The export of seeds of cereals and cotton will be monitored by the ministry, whereas export of other crops won’t require any special permission.
