Crop production in Azerbaijan exceeds $2B

From January through November 2019, the value of agricultural production in Azerbaijan amounted to about 7.3 billion manat ($4.2 billion), which is 11.2 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee.

During the reporting period, livestock production increased by 3.2 percent (up to 3.7 billion manat, or slightly over $2.1 billion), and crop production - by 11.3 percent (up to 3.6 billion manat, or $2.1 billion).

From January through November 2019, 429,900 tons of meat, 1.7 million tons of milk, 1.5 billion eggs and 15,900 tons of wool were produced in the country. Compared with the same indicators in 2018, meat production increased by 2.9 percent, milk - by 1.8 percent, eggs - by 8.1 percent, and wool - by 1.5 percent.

For the eleven months of this year, 993,800 tons of potatoes were grown (an increase of 11.7 percent) alongside 1.6 billion tons of other vegetables, which is 13.2 percent more compared to the same period last year. During the reporting period, 3.4 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were grown, which is 6.6 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the reporting period, 447,600 tons of melons, which is 11.4 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, and 1 million tons of fruits and berries (an increase of 7.7 percent) were grown. Furthermore, 194,100 tons of grapes (a 25.4-percent annual growth), 911.3 tons of green tea leaves (a 4.9-percent decrease) and 34,500 tons of sunflower (a 42.6-percent growth) were grown.
