Majority of Uzbek entrepreneurs expect their business prospects to improve

Some 73 percent of Uzbek entrepreneurs estimated that their business prospects for the next three months will improve, while 23 percent believe that they will not change and only four percent think that their business prospects will worsen, Trend reports with reference to the CERR (Center for Economic Research and Reforms) survey.

CERR conducted a December survey of enterprises to assess the business climate in Uzbekistan. Some 1,003 enterprises took part in the survey. The survey was carried out in two directions - a qualitative assessment of the current state of the business and the expectations of entrepreneurs for the next 2-3 months.

The indicator of the current state of business in December 2020 amounted to 33 points, increasing by six points compared to the previous month, which characterizes the moderately positive mood of Uzbek entrepreneurs regarding the current state of their business.

In particular, the indicator of the current state of affairs in the industrial sector rose by 10 points compared to November, in the construction and services sectors an increase was recorded by 14 and 24 points, respectively. In the agricultural sector, on the contrary, there was a decrease of 24 points.

Out of 1,003 surveyed enterprises, 41 percent assessed the current state of business as good, 41 percent as satisfactory, and 18 percent as bad.

The indicator of expectations of business development prospects for the next three months amounted to 73 points, having increased by 22 points compared to the previous month, that is, the expectations of entrepreneurs about the prospects for the development of their business for the next three months are positive.

In particular, the indicator of expectations for prospects in agriculture increased by 29 points, industry - 21 points, construction - 39 points, services - 14 points, respectively.

Taken together, the business climate indicator amounted to 52 points, showing an increase of 13 points compared to the previous month, that is, the state of the business climate in the country is assessed as good.

The CERR report also noted that the assessment of similar indicators of the business climate in December 2020 for the main partner countries consists of Turkey (7), Russia (-7.3), China (1.9), and South Korea (- 18).
