BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 3. The amount of wheat harvested in Iran for the last planting year (September 23, 2021, through September 22, 2022), increased by 25 percent, compared to the previous planting year (September 22, 2020, through September 22, 2021), the Executive Director of Iran’s Government Trading Corporation (GTC), Saeed Rad said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

The director said that more than 10 million tons of wheat were harvested in Iran in the last planting year.

Rad added that 7.16 million tons of the harvested wheat were purchased by the GTC from the farmers under a guarantee.

“Taking into account the crisis related to food security as a result of the events taking place in the world, the demand for essential products such as wheat has doubled around the world. Due to the increased demand, Iran imported about 4 million tons of wheat during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2022),” he noted.
