Kazakhstan eyes to build new highways

It is planned to implement 22 projects, which envisage construction of roads with a total length of 4,400 kilometers, including 15 new highways, in Kazakhstan this year as part of the Nurly Zhol (Bright Path) State Program, Zhenis Kassymbek, the country’s minister of investments and development, said at a government meeting.

He noted that construction of roads with a total length of 1,200 kilometers continues in Kazakhstan.

He added that implementation of new projects, which envisage construction of roads with a total length of 2,500 kilometers, has started in 2017.

For nine months of 2017, 177.5 billion tenges ($528 million as of Oct. 23) were spent for the implementation of the road projects, he noted.

It is planned to conclude contracts for five projects, which envisage construction of roads with a total length of 0,700 kilometers by the end of this year, he added.

It is envisaged to allocate 356 billion tenges from the Kazakhstan National Fund, the state budget and international financial institutions for the implementation of the road projects in the country.
