Prospective varieties of sunflower and soybean were presented by the breeders of an oilseed farm to the mayor of East Kazakhstan Province during his trip there.

Breeders of the Experimental Farm for Oil Crops in the Glubokoye District said sunflower is the main oilseed crop in the region. It accounts for up to 70 percent of the sown oilseeds and 85 percent of the gross harvest.

The hybrids bred by the breeders have a number of advantages. They have a 15-20 percent higher yield potential. There are special herbicide-resistant varieties as well.

According to the Director of Astana Business LLP Farid Abitayev, the Experimental Farm for Oil Crops is planning to breed varieties of oil crops together with Krasnodar’s Lukyanenko Institute for Selection, which is a leader in the field.
