ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 25. Kazakhstan's construction material market has witnessed significant growth during the period from January through May 2023, Trend reports.
According to the country's Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development, the market volume reached 606.6 billion Kazakh tenge ($1.3 billion), and the share of domestic producers surged to 67 percent, marking a 5 percentage point increase compared to the same period in 2022. In contrast, the share of imported products decreased to 33 percent.
The increase in production volumes of construction materials is attributed to the rise in output for various items, including refractory products (+6.4 percent to 112,000 tons), ceramic non-refractory bricks (+37.6 percent to 816,000 cubic meters), silicate and slag bricks (+3.8 percent to 454,000 tons), construction mortars (+8.7 percent to 718,000 tons), flat glass (7.1 billion Kazakh tenge or $15.8 million), and tiles, slabs, bricks, and similar products made from cement, concrete, or artificial stone (+6.5 percent to 2.2 million tons).
The growth in construction material production was also influenced by a 12.1 percent increase in construction activities from January through May, with non-residential buildings witnessing a surge of 17.9 percent and facilities seeing a rise of 14.7 percent. The volume of construction and installation works reached 1.3 trillion tenge, while the total area of newly commissioned residential buildings increased by 15.4 percent, reaching 5,470 square meters.
The higher share of domestic producers played a key role in boosting the overall production volume in the construction material sector, which saw 16 percent growth, reaching 451.5 billion Kazakh tenge ($1 billion). Moreover, the significant increase in the share of domestic producers positively impacted export volumes, which increased by 44 percent, reaching $100.1 million.
The most noticeable growth in exports was observed in product categories such as flat glass (up to 8,500 tons), driven by deliveries to Uzbekistan (up to 6,108 tons) and Tajikistan (up to 2,396 tons), as well as pipes, tubes, and hoses (up to 285 tons), and refractory cements, construction mortars (up to 13,000 tons).
