Kyrgyzstan records decline in remittances

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 15. A total of $145.9 million was sent to Kyrgyzstan from abroad through money transfer systems in July 2023, Trend reports.

Data from the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan indicates that this figure is 10 percent lower than in June 2023 ($163.5 million). The net inflow amounted to $115.9 million.

So far, the highest remittance amount to Kyrgyzstan this year was recorded in May at $174 million, while the smallest was in July.

The majority of the money came from CIS countries (Commonwealth of Independent States) in July 2023, totaling $132.7 million, while $13.2 million came from non-CIS countries.

In September of the current year, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan noted a negative trend in money transfers from abroad. It was highlighted that from January through June of the current year, remittances from abroad decreased by 32.2 percent year-on-year. The bank believes that this decline will continue.

Total remittances to the country reached $2.9 billion in 2022, with $1.2 billion being transferred from Kyrgyzstan to other countries, the net inflow amounted to $1.7 billion.
