President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon will pay an official visit to Azerbaijan on July 12-13, Tajik Embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend on Thursday.

According to the source, a schedule of events within the visit is not finally coordinated.
It is planned that Rahmon will meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and other officials in Baku.

The mutual visits of the presidents of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan, Ilham Aliyev and Emomali Rahmon in March and August 2007 gave additional impetus to the dynamic development of bilateral interstate cooperation.

The Embassy of Azerbaijan was opened in Dushanbe in 2007 and respectively the Embassy of Tajikistan was opened in Baku in 2008.

Azerbaijan and Tajikistan are working closely with such international and regional organisations as the UN, OIC, ECO, CIS and others to effectively maintain regional peace and ensure the fundamental interests of both countries.

The first meeting of the Azerbaijan-Tajik intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and cultural cooperation was held in Dushanbe on March 5, 2012.

Particular attention is paid to the development of bilateral relations, training of Tajik personnel in Azerbaijani universities in such areas as geological exploration and development of oil and gas, petrochemical industry and in various fields of heavy industry. Azerbaijan provides both public and private investment in order to open new work places.

The Tajik Aluminium Company TALCO transports goods through the territory of Azerbaijan. It has completed the preparation of equipment and modernisation to ensure the production and delivery of a connection to the Azerbaijani Aluminum Company Det-Al.

The reconstruction of existing facilities and construction of a plant to produce Cryolite and fluorides was implemented in order to supply caustic soda for the alumina production in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan, in turn, provides the Tajik side with the oil and raw calcined coke produced at the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery.

State Statistics Committee said trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan amounted to $15.99 million in 2011, where the share of exports is $13.2 million.
