BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. Tajikistan generated 4 billion KWh of electricity from January through February 2023, which is a 5.5 percent increase year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, Trend reports via Tajik media.

The ministry said that the hydroelectric power plants in Tajikistan generated more than 3.4 billion kWh of electricity in the reporting period. While the thermal power plants of the country produced 516 million KWh of electricity.

In accordance with Tajikistan’s Renewable Energy Program for 2023-2027, approved by the government decree issued on March 1, 2023, it is planned to significantly increase the production capacity of Tajikistan's energy system through the use of renewable energy sources.

As the preliminary estimates show, the energy potential of these resources (excluding large hydroelectric power plants) amounts to more than 35,754 MW.

Meanwhile, the European Development Bank said that electricity generation in Tajikistan increased by 3.8 percent in 2022.

According to Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, last year the country produced a record amount of more than 21 billion kWh of electricity for the first time in history.
