BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 4. The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) invites Turkmenistan to join the system of related ports, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

This was stated by the Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Mirvokhid Azimov, at the "International transport and transit corridors: interconnection and development" (ITC 2023) international conference on May 4, 2023.

"To strengthen coordination between direct transport operators, such as sea and dry ports, as well as logistics centers, we have created the "Sister Ports" mechanism. We invite the seaports of Turkmenistan to join this system," Azimov said.

He noted that by joining this network, the seaports of Turkmenistan can use the experience and resources of other ports, as well as contribute their unique knowledge and capabilities to it.

Turkmenistan's biggest and main port is Turkmenbashi International Seaport, located in the Balkan region, with a capacity of 400,000 TEU containers per year. The port has a capacity of 17 million tons of cargo per year, covers a total area of 150 hectares with the ability to receive 17 vessels at the same time.

At the same time, Azimov noted Turkmenistan's active participation in cooperation in the railway sector. In this context, the Deputy Secretary General of OTS added that the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway corridor will open up additional opportunities for Turkmenistan as a transit hub between Europe and Asia.
