BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 5. Uzbekistan has installed solar panels with a total capacity of 1 MW on the territory adjacent to the Talimarjan thermal power plant (TPP), Trend reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Energy.

Talimarjan TPP, located in the Nishan district of Uzbekistan’s Karshkadarya region, was put into operation in 2004.

According to the ministry, the panels will generate an additional 1.8 million kWh of electricity per year, thus saving 400,000 cubic meters of natural gas.

The country’s authorities pay special attention to boosting renewables deployment countrywide. In this regard, the number of solar panels installed on buildings and structures of social facilities and economic entities will be expanded.

The abovementioned measures are taken within the framework of the Uzbek President's "On measures to accelerate the introduction of renewable energy sources and energy-saving technologies in 2023" Resolution.

Recently, Uzbekistan installed solar panels with a total capacity of 1.2 MW on the territory of the Mubarek TPP. The newly installed panels will generate an additional 2 million kWh of electricity per year, and save 500,000 cubic meters of natural gas.

Back in November 2022, Spanish INTECSA Ingenieria Industrial SA and Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation strike a deal to construct two combined-cycle units with a total capacity of at least 900 MW Talimarjan TPP by 2025.
