Today, the holy defense week has started in Tehran, with a military parade, IRINN reported live.

Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is currently present at the parade.

The parade will pass in front of the tomb of Iranian former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.

Holy Defense Week is celebrated annually in Iran to commemorate those who died during the Iran-Iraq War.

Tomorrow, students and scientists will participate in the parade as well.

The Iran-Iraq War began on Sept. 22, 1980 when the Iraqi army attacked the Iranian province of Khuzistan. The war ended with a ceasefire agreement on August 1988. The border between the two countries remained unchanged.

Military equipment is being demonstrated during the parade in Tehran and other cities of the country. This year's military parade should be revealing the latest achievements of Iran's military power.
