The number of visitors from Iran traveling to Georgia in January 2022 increased about 163 times, compared to just 25 visitors over the same month of 2020, and totaled 4,083 people, Trend reports via Georgian National Tourism Administration.

However, the same figure decreased by 57 percent, compared to 9,467 visitors in January 2020, and by 52 percent, compared to 8,424 visitors over the same period of 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic).

Thus, Iran ranks 10 among TOP-15 main countries of origin for visitors arriving in Georgia in January 2022, the report said. Meanwhile, Turkey ranked first on the list with 31,775 visitors, followed by Russia (28,381), and non-residents of Georgia (22,119).

The number of visitors from Iran traveling to Georgia from January through December 2021 increased by 8.8 percent to 18,549 visitors, compared to 17,053 people over 2020. The same figure decreased by 86.9 percent in the reporting period of 2021, compared to 2019, when 141,997 people visited Georgia from Iran.

The total number of international visitors to Georgia in January 2022 amounted to 199,393 people, which is an increase of 471.2 percent, compared to 34,909 visitors over the same month of 2021.

However, the current figure decreased by 68.5 percent, compared to 633,201 visitors in January 2020, and by 62.3 percent, compared to 528,678 people over the same month of 2019.
