Azerbaijan, Baku, April 9 / Trend, A.Taghiyeva /

Special Representative of the UN and the League of Arab States (LAS) on Syria, Kofi Annan will arrive in Turkey to become familiar with the situation of Syrian refugees in the country, the Zaman newspaper reported with reference to a diplomatic source.

Annan will stay in Turkey for half a day, during which he intends to visit the refugee camp in Hatay. After that he will leave for Iran.

Last week, Annan said that Damascus agreed to the April 10 deadline for starting fulfilment of his plan to resolve the conflict in Syria. He also proposed to force both sides to fully implement a ceasefire within 48 hours after the deadline.

Last Thursday, the Syrian authorities reported the partial withdrawal of troops from three Syrian cities - Idlib, Zabadani and Deraa.

Anti-government protests which began in mid-March have persisted in Syria for almost a year. Daily reports are being received about the deaths of people, both civilian and the security forces.

According to UN statistics, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 9000. The Syrian authorities accuse armed militants of the clashes saying they receive assistance from neighbouring countries.
